"You know... kids can be mean..."
Logan is a beautiful, engaging, charismatic cheerleader. You'd never guess that only a few years ago she struggled with low self-esteem. "I had huge gaps between my teeth. My canines were up by my nose. A lot of my teeth were completely out of whack – my bottom teeth were really crowded, my top teeth all spread out."
"I would always try to hide my teeth. Kids would make fun of me. I had a big problem just going to school and trying to talk to friends – I felt... embarrassed."
In spite of the severity of her dental issues, Medicaid repeatedly denied coverage for dental procedures to correct her smile. It seemed there was nothing that could be done for Logan – the cost for the necessary surgeries and dental work was well beyond what her family could afford.
A friend suggested Logan check into the Brighter Smiles Initiative. Two surgeries and three years of braces later, Logan is a completely different girl from the one who first visited Dr Sparkman's office.
"My confidence and self-esteem have risen so much. I'll be a cheerleader next year. It's a big thing to be able to go out there and smile a big, beautiful smile."
Logan's Mom is looking even further forward, "She'll be able to look interviewers in the eye and speak with confidence. This will change her future."
